We dine there twice because we liked it so much we returned. Sylvie was our waitress. She says she loves her job and it shows. The service, food, affordability, and atmosphere were wonderful. The manager was awesome too. Unfortunately, I did not get her name. We were dining on a Sunday morning. They had a lovely pianist, playing beautiful music.

The Swamp Fox is my favorite restaurant in Charleston! And the food and ambiance is only topped by the welcoming staff. The Francis Marion Hotel (which operates The Swamp Fox) is a privately owned hotel, which is an increasingly rare thing today, and it really shows! Many of the employees have been at the hotel and restaurant for over a decade, and obviously love their job and love the hotel. The Swamp Fox for Charleston!

Came here for breakfast before our 5 hour drive back home from Charleston. It definitely feels like you're eating in a hotel restaurant. Compared to other spots nearby, I would give the ambience a 3/5. BUT I was able to grab Starbucks next door and enjoy my favorite coffee with my meal (always a plus!) and the breakfast items were the most affordable we had all weekend! The food was good and the portions were very generous. I liked that you could order from the short order menu instead of the buffet. My husband got the Swamp Fox stack which was good but heavy before a road trip. I got the Charleston omelet which was really good. The breakfast potatoes were bland and flavorless but our waitress kindly let me swap them for the grits which were excellent.

This hotel bar/restaurant is kinda small, but it serves the hotel well. We were at a conference here and it got crowded when our group entered. It was the first night getting in and we ended up venturing out on the town on other nights. It also closed pretty early (10p) so if you're looking to hang out for a bit after a late dinner, you may be SOL here. Luckily, there are lots of other options in Charleston for imbibing.

Breakfast was delicious both of the mornings I ate there. Eggs benedict & egg white omelet were both perfectly cooked (which is no easy feat, as I'm fussy lol). Some of the best grits I've ever eaten. The third morning I ate at another restaurant nearby, but found myself wishing I had gone back to Swamp Fox instead. It would've been cheaper & tastier.

Swamp Fox was a delicious visit! Andrew provided excellent service and the pianist really elevated the ambiance of the restaurant. I got the cocktail of CHS Teatime and The Bella Fox. For my meal I went with the petite shrimp n grits and the strawberry arugula salad mini plate. Left feeling comfortably full and happy with the nutritious and delicious meal. Great use of space and friendly staff. Bathrooms are located downstairs but need a code to enter so check with the staff for it.

What a pleasant surprise. It's few and far between when a hotel's restaurant is above average but I have to say The Swamp Fox will impress even the pickiest diner. Service is attentive and friendly. The manager Brian is in constant motion making sure everyone is receiving the best service. The live piano music in the bar area does spill into the dining room. I'm glad to report however that the music is kept at a good background noise level so you will be able to hear your dinner companions and not have to be screaming at them. The Roasted Carrot Soup Fresh veggie sides and southern fare..sweet potato hash was new on the menu so had to try. Will have to try the short ribs next time... Abby is an excellent server and was always available for small detail requests. I didn't have dessert as I had an appointment to get to but next time I will sit with one of the Swamp Fox's homemade sweets!

Our server Sylvie was amazing. She was so welcoming and kind. The food was good. The She Crab soup was not worth it but the fried chicken was great. The atmosphere was fine. It was not amazing and it not terrible.

Surprisingly, good for a hotel restaurant! I stayed in the Francis Marion Hotel for a few days and dined here several times. I found it to have equally, if not better food, less crowded, and better value than most of the other restaurants in the area. I tried every salad on their menu, all good. Portion size is great. I also tried a few of their soup selections. The she crab soup is a famous local item, however, I found it to be a bit too heavy and salty. They are bread, however, was fantastic - crispy on the outside and soft inside. And they were free! Many restaurants charge you for breads these days, and it was so nice to find a restaurant that offer free bread. Service was remarkable! Everyone that I encountered, was courteous, and tentative. The few times, I dined here, my orders always came very fast and nicely prepared. The dining room isn't big, but classy and comfortable. And to think that it is almost 100 years old, in a historical hotel, certainly put things in perspective. Some nights they have live piano performance. I enjoyed the old fashion music. All in all a great little gem here. There must be a lot of people working very hard behind the scene to make all these happen. I truly appreciate the fact that there are people doing things the old fashion ways, and doing them so well!
